FYI

Multiplicity, Group Exhibition, 6 Manton Gallery , 2024

This work is a response to my lived experience of chronic illness and hidden disability. It aims to promote awareness, challenge assumptions and shed light on an existence governed by a multiplicity of issues. The deliberate use of found materials is fundamental to my practice and is chosen both as a means of climate activism as well as imbuing the work with the embedded history within these materials. The medication blister packets fashioned into a mask highlight the truth that it is indeed medication that enables masking so effective, that I am able to appear ‘normal’. Vintage textiles from a different time retain echoes of a past when difference was not well accepted. You are invited to ponder how far we have come in understanding these issues and how much further we still need to travel.
